Homeskoolin’ Volume 322, Tom Bukovac, “Turn Me On, I’m A Sideman”
Uncle Larry gives you some more deep early morning thoughts and heats up the tubes on a whipped old super late tweed deluxe (1961) that looks like someone peed on it.

Great Strat conversation. I always put a tone control on the bridge of my Strats. It's just too bright otherwise. I'll share one pot with the neck and middle pickups and devote one to my bridge pickup.

@501chorusecho…. Rick Beato did a short featuring you called “Vital Signs”. Tom, you played that’s synth part from memory and Rick put the Rush mix over your part. The timing and tuning were impeccable. Great job!!’

Not saying he may not have nailed it, but it's a fairly simple ordeal to tempo map and adjust pitch to pre recorded music to fit with a live performance. Infact those vehemently opposed to hard grid quantization will generally do a similar approach. I'm sure that's what was done to Marshall's metal madness, a couple videos back. Infact I mapped out Marshall's tempo and did a similar video.

Vibrato and all the little bends you can do on guitar are what makes it alive. I practiced it far too little in the beginning. I was somehow convinced that practicing fast and complicated stuff would make me a good player and that the rest would fall into place. If you don't want to waste time, identify what you want and work towards it.

Once again, Uncle Larry cracks the code. Just fix stuff around the house. Men and women are easy to understand. Just think of lions on the Serengeti Plain. The males are lying there. All they need to know in life is if they have to get up. They get up to eat, to fight (or play guitar) or to have sex. Simple. The females are busy. They worry about food, about the female pecking order, about preventing the young from doing something fool, like walking alone near that pack of hyenas or walking carelessly into the watering hole. She's always busy. Give her a hand and fix something. It lightens the load and makes her feel noticed. Better for everyone.

Maybe it was a guest on Mr. Beato who said a guitar player needs to take a breath like a sax or trumpet 🎺 player does when doing a solo. Pause sometimes. I expected my neighbor's spaghetti to be spicy, she was an old Italian and made it sweet. If I expected it to be sweet I probably would have liked it more. The next time I had it there I expected it to be sweet and I did like it more. I think sometimes we think what comes out of a Stratocaster should be a certain thing, if its not then???? Maybe it takes time to acquire a taste for the unexpected.

Looked up alcohol and arthritis, one thing it said was since alcohol is a diuretic it can lead to joint pain because of dehydration. So drink extra water to keep hydrated if your having some alcohol. Someone said that's why hangovers happen. Alcohol helps some people's arthritis and aggravates others arthritis. So you gotta figure it out for yourself.

If we practiced with backing tracks that had singing on it would help a lot with leaving space, when it’s a full song length with no vocals there’s a feeling that you have to play all the time, someone needs to do guitar backing tracks with vocals on ;)

On the topic of rushing and overplaying. What I've found in my own playing (I improvise alot) is that those two things always happen when I don't have a clear idea or direction in my playing. So nowadays I'm working alot more on what I should bring to a part in order to enhance it, rather than just showcasing my technical abilities.

About rating another players game: Maybe some people confuse giving critique with make yourself feeling bigger by someone else feeling smaller...BUT: Critic means giving you an honest review of weak and strong parts of your playing. So that you can grow and get better. And that's what you do Uncle Larry. Nothing but good karma points for this. Go on!

As a fellow Old "guitarded" rocker like you Tom, bet you've done this 70's timing tip (or how we learned before the internet) I used to put on a record or better yet the radio. Already, knowing the Song, I would play along for a minute, then quickly crank down the radio volume to zero. Then whilst continuing to play "along" I'd have anyone around randomly crank the volume knob back up! When you're still in the right place in the right time ,you know can trust the clock in your head, or your gut , (and sometimes lower.) Or the real way i perfected my timing /meter (this is an unforgiving teacher) Lock yourself in a room 4-5 hrs with an old tape echoplex or memory man. Playing rhythm and lead lines on the beat, berween the beat (fake dotted 8th setting) add your own harmony parts on the repeats. Practicing with an echo is how I perfected my meter or inner clock. You learn real quick when you hear your mistake(s..s.s.s.sss500ms later, later, later.. Fellow Homeschooler's it works, works ,wor.... On a more personal note.. I love you Tom ! Been playing 50 years! I think I'm hearing me talk to myself when I watch/listen to you. You're like a long lost twin brother I just recently figured out existed (one of our Mom's must know?) Hey! I'll volunteer to be your assistant and go thru other home schooler's submissions. I'd even relocate to Nashville! I was just there for the eclipse. I tried to find you playing a gig that week. Nope. You are the younger brother I look up up to! You turned out reallly good! Love to hang with you one day, both with a beer & our (current favorite) Les Paul's in hand! Maybe I should send in my own homeschooler submission first? Or look me up on you tube so you know I'm 'as safe as milk'😇 Love, Your "guitarded' older brother, Marc Bennett/better known as: Jewy Hendrix (on stage & computer screens)

Morning from the UK .. I hope everyone is in fine fettle . On the “pompous” reviewing of another guitarists playing subject . To my mind that is what a mentor/teacher/educator does and to have someone of Toms level offer this is a real gift . I have taught beginner to intermediate guitar for many years and the lessons have funded my life. I am nowhere near a top guitarist and know my place in the large scale of things but I have started many players on their journey and feel proud in doing so .. To have Tom offer this on top of his normal Home skoolin content is a wonderful thing and I know we all appreciate his efforts . Listen, watch and learn . We will all be better for it . Craig x

As far as the same four chords being used in every song goes I think it's simply that most people don't like unpredictability. Most people live their entire life by going with the set path it only seems to be more creative types that like things that are more novel and weird
